The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for one Tier I Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Environmental Biochemistry. The successful candidate will have established a highly visible, internationally recognized, innovative research program in environmental biochemistry, as demonstrated by an outstanding publication and funding record, and active graduate student supervision. Examples of research programs could include: characterizing enzymes that help organisms deal with environmental stress; understanding the biochemical responses to new types of chemical pollutants; and understanding biochemical processes that use waste materials generated from natural resources to replace physical or chemical processes. The position provides an excellent opportunity for collaborations with several multidisciplinary University Research Centres, including the Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics, the Centre for Biological Applications of Mass Spectrometry, the Centre for NanoScience Research and the Centre for Research in Molecular Modeling, as well as with the Faculty of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) and Concordia’s Department of Geography, Planning and Environment. Industrial partnerships would be highly encouraged. He/she will continue to attract excellent graduate students and other research personnel and contribute to high quality undergraduate and graduate teaching and training.
Tier 1 CRCs are for “outstanding and innovative researchers” who are acknowledged by their peers as “world leaders in their fields.” They are awarded for seven years and are renewable.

In order to successfully compete for a CRC award, candidates are expected to have an outstanding and innovative research program, and the ability to attract excellent graduate students.
Applications must consist of a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, copies of recent publications, a statement of research achievements with a detailed five-year research plan (appropriate to the goals and objectives of the CRC program), a statement of teaching philosophy/interests, and evidence of teaching effectiveness.
